Yorkhill / Glasgow Easter Egg Run

Any old banter - but keep it family safe!

Yorkhill / Glasgow Easter Egg Run

Postby independentphoto on Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:49 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad news people. I have just read on the Scottish MAG website that after last years "roadworks" excuse, there will be no run organised again this year 2010.....

Check out this posting which does not even appeal for volunteers to take the job on.... http://glasgoweggrun.mag-uk.org/

If the organisers (3 in number according to this) cannot manage, then surely out of the thousands of participants, three more could be found?

Unbelievable. We were actually stopped on Great Western Road one afternoon by an old lady demanding to know why there was no 2009 run!

Just to facilitate chat from more than just this forum, I have just created a Facebook Group for this cause. Perhaps we can find persons capable of helping to make the event happen.

A quick update on the Egg run from me for the 93 viewers of the thread. Speaking with Yorkhill, they have no problem with the run going ahead this year - they would in fact, be rather happy for that to be the case. My partner in crime has spoken further with MAG and a few of us (non-MAG) will be meeting later in the week to thrash out some ideas before progressing further. At this moment in time, there's almost two months to sort it out.

Remeber to check out the Facebook group if you are interested.

Garry,
I have been a steward at the Egg Run before.

If ya need any help at all I gladly offer my services, not just for stewarding anything at all.

C'mon lads and lasses lets see what we can do, it's all for a good cause.

I have been on a few sites following threads from discussions. I have to agree that it would be a great shame to let the Easter run disappear. Some suggest that everyone should just turn up ready to go. Don't think that is the way forward.
If anyone is interested in arranging this I would be more than happy to help. I have work experience that could be helpful for some of the considerations that should be taken.

Reply back if your interested and I will give you contact details. I think there is just about enough time to arrange.

Aye tis true.
We're attempting to set up meets with the cooncil, plod, SECC and Yorkhill.

Await further developments, however in the meantime just spread the word and await the nod/cry for help.

Hi Guys. Feedback from all parties so far is excellent and positive. We're saying at this point that YES there will be a run with Police Road Closures etc.

Keep spreading the word and checking the Facebook Group

BTW - Alan. Cheers for the message on FB. You now have a response.

While the Scotland Rugby team were grasping defeat from the jaws of victory this afternoon I can confirm there was a wee bit of a meet going on up in Glasgow to push things on a bit more.

I'm sure Garry will be along later to let us know what happened.

Due to the rush in making application to the Council - we have only just made the deadline, some confusion has arisen due to times mentioned originally on Facebook being a LITTLE different (30 mins earlier) from those on the application. All sorts of rumours appear to be circulating either intentionally or otherwise. I can say only one thing - we will have more news in the dueness of time.

Strathclyde Police, Glasgow City Council and a few other organisations are fully backing us in addition to Yorkhill Childrens Foundation. The jigsaw is all coming together and posters will be circulated as soon as details are fixed.

More meetings require to be arranged and undertaken and progress is always forward.

All the best,

Garry

Hi guys & girls.

Here's another update from the YEER team. (Falcoholic is having internet problems for the mo, but it's all being worked on.)

Expect to hear plugs for the run being broadcast on all three GMG media stations soo. That is Rock Radio, Real Radio and Smooth Radio. Rock will also be aiding us in other ways that we're sure you will appreciate

You can donate to the hospital http://www.justgiving.com/YorkhillsEasterEggRun%20 - they actually get MORE per pound given from this than from cash in a bucket! (Due to gift aid)

All the best,

Garry & all at YEER

Afraid I won't make it as will be in Malta, donation made un lieu of marshalling, presence and Margaret will be handing over all her Christmas sweeties this weekend.
